Eccentric is one word to describe Virgin Group chief executive Sir Richard Branson.

Entrepreneurial is another. In the world of science, technology and travel alone, the man has dipped his toes in a lot of ponds.

His latest foray is into deep sea exploration. With Virgin Oceanic, Branson wants to take five deep sea submarines and bring them to the deepest point in each of the Earth's five oceans. Branson said the whole thing will cost less than $10 million and will open a new world of scientific discovery.
