Deepika Padukone Cracks Forbes Top 10 Highest-Paid Actresses List; 6 Things To Know About The Bollywood Star

For the second year in a row, Jennifer Lawrence has topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid actresses. While the rest of the top 10 list remains mostly the same from last year, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone cracked the top 10 as the only newcomer on the list.

The 30-year-old actress, who starred in the hit film “Bajirao Mastani,” earned $10 million over 12 months. While Padukone’s earnings are less than her Hollywood counterparts, the actress makes up for it with what Forbes calls “lucrative endorsements.” Here are six things you should know about the actress:

1. She Has Starred In Three Of India’s Top 15 Highest-Grossing Films

Three of Padukone’s most recent roles — “Chennai Express,” “Happy New Year” and “Bajirao Mastani” — have gone on to become three of highest-grossing films in the country with “Chennai Express” being the seventh highest.

2. She Was Born In Denmark

While Deepika is a Bollywood star, the actress was actually born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Deepika’s time in Copenhagen was short, as her family moved to Bangalore, India, when she was one year old.

3. She Played Competitive Badminton

The daughter of a former badminton player, Padukone played the sport competitively at a young age. “I would wake up at five in the morning, go for physical training, go to school, again go for playing badminton, finish my homework and go to sleep,” she said in 2012.

4. She Became A Full-Time Model In 2004

After realizing badminton wasn’t for her, Padukone turned her attention to modeling. The actress got her first big break in a soap commercial and eventually went on to win Model of the Year at the Kingfisher Fashion Awards in 2005.

5. She Was 2012’s Most Beautiful Woman In India

In 2012, the Indian edition of People magazine named Padukone “India’s Most Beautiful Woman.” The actress has also topped Indian Maxim’s “Hot 100” list and The Time of India’s “Most Desirable Women.”

6. She Signed A Record Breaking Endorsement Deal

In 2012, Padukone became an ambassador for Garnier Skin Naturals. The deal was reportedly worth $890,000.
