Delaware Woman Accused Of Raping Daughter's 13-Year-Old Boyfriend Pleads Guilty, Gets Probation
A Delaware woman was sentenced to probation Thursday after pleading guilty to charges of raping her daughter’s 13-year-old boyfriend in November.
Kent County Superior Court Judge Robert Young sentenced 46-year-old Elaine B. Goodman of Dover to two years of probation.
Goodman, who was charged with third-degree rape, fourth-degree rape, unlawful sexual contact and sexual solicitation of a child, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree rape. She was also ordered to complete sexual disorders counseling and register as a sex offender.
James Liguor, Goodman’s attorney, told the court that Goodman was sorry for her actions and said imprisoning her was the wrong solution. Goodman wept in the courtroom.
"I just know she is truly, truly hurt to the core by how much she hurt so many people," Ligour said, according to The News Journal, a Wilmington, Delaware-based publication.
"I know sorry is just a word, but I really am," Goodman said.
Court documents showed that Smyrna police received a report claiming the woman had sex with a minor a few weeks before her 45th birthday party. It also stated that the boy had snuck out of his house in the early morning of March 15, 2015, to meet with Goodman in her car at around 1 a.m. until 4:30 a.m., where they indulged in sexual activities.
The Children’s Advocacy Center was notified by the boy, in which he reportedly told them that Goodman kissed and undressed him before they had sex, according to court documents.
Deputy Attorney General Denise Weeks-Tappan said the woman didn’t think about the boy’s well-being, instead acting solely for her own self-interests.
"This mom, who he trusted, instructed him on what to do," Weeks-Tappan said. "The crime has affected the victim in many ways. He's hurt, embarrassed and it is affecting his schooling. When the defendant committed this crime, she took something away from him. He was not a willing participant, but a victim."
Police also found DNA evidence inside Goodman’s vehicle and retrieved clothing she worn the night of the incident and the cellphone she used to communicate with the boy.
Goodman texted a friend, saying that the boy “is so cute with a nice a-- body."
"I asked him what in the world are u doing with a body like that at 13...," Goodman texted the unidentified friend, according to court documents.
