Demi Lovato Talks Hating ‘Every Inch’ Of Her Body, Empowerment

Demi Lovato may look sexy and beautiful in the latest cover of Cosmopolitan magazine, but the singer revealed that she used to hate her body.

Earlier this month, critics called for the magazine to be hidden given that Cosmopolitan’s cover lines are deemed too sexy for minors. Lovato defended her cover shoot and posted a lengthy message on Instagram, where she spoke about her newfound confidence and self-love. She even declared the she was a “PROUD @COSMOPOLITAN COVER GIRL!”

And now, the former Disney star revealed that she was not always proud of her body, and even hated it at one point. E! News caught up with Lovato during Samsung's Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 launch event in West Hollywood Tuesday, where she shared her struggles with body image. Lovato mentioned that it took enormous effort from her part before she reached a point wherein she could “feel comfortable enough to that.”

Lovato continued that it was a way for her to show her journey with fans. She revealed, “I've gone from hating every inch of my body to doing a photo shoot in my underwear in front of the entire world. That's more of statement to me than just looking sexy on a magazine cover. It's so important for me to show people that.”

Meanwhile the “Cool for Summer” crooner also shared that her boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama, made her feel “confident and beautiful.” In an interview with US Weekly, Lovato talked about embracing her sexuality and maturity through her music, sharing her life with fans over social media, along with the support she gets from beau, Valderrama.

In describing her relationship with Valderrama, she stated the actor is “extremely supportive” of the various projects and endeavors that she is doing. Lovato said, “He makes me feel confident and beautiful. And I’m just really, really grateful for him.”

The singer is celebrating her 23rd birthday on Aug. 20, and will reportedly have a little get-together with close friends.
