Demi Lovato Weight 2014: Singer Reflects On Past MTV VMAs Red Carpet Fashion [PHOTOS]
Demi Lovato struggled with her body image in the past, but after her last red carpet appearance, the “Really Don’t Care” singer said she felt “beautiful.” Lovato, 22, shared her past four MTV Video Music Awards red carpet looks and lamented spending too many years being embarrassed about her figure. She took to Instagram to reflect on the insecurities that hid behind each outfit.
"I remember the day I wore the dress in the very first picture. I remember asking for spanx to flatten my stomach because I use to feel so heavy and ‘fat'," Lovato wrote Monday morning. "Now looking at this picture, you can clearly see my hip bones."
She added: "It makes me sad because I wasted so many years ashamed of my body when I could've been living the happy and healthy life I live today."
The starlet was treated for cutting and an eating disorder in 2010. She has also battled alcohol and drug addiction and admitted she would sneak cocaine onto planes. "It TRULY just goes to show you that your perceptions can lie to you," she wrote. "OR they can make you learn to enjoy life."
When Lovato wore a daring Lanvin red gown with a thigh-high slit to the 2014 MTV VMAs, she showed her progression with self-acceptance. "Fortunately looking at the picture of myself in the red dress yesterday, I not only feel so grateful for the love and support I've had from fans, friends and family, but... I also feel.. beautiful."
MTV and Hollywood Life praised her fashion choice at the awards show Sunday. She perfectly coordinated her dress, lipstick, manicure and clutch, the sites wrote. Her half-shaved head helped bring an edge to her ultra-glamorous look.
Lovato is embarking on a world tour to promote her album, which is full of self-acceptance anthems, with Christina Perri and MKTO. “Demi Lovato: World Tour” will kick off in Baltimore on Sept. 6 and end in Manchester, England, on Nov. 29.
