Denver Broncos Game Still Scheduled After Joe Ellis, John Elway Test Positive For COVID-19
Denver Broncos President and CEO Joe Ellis and General Manager John Elway have tested positive for the coronavirus, but it shouldn’t affect the team’s upcoming game. The Broncos are still preparing to play the Atlanta Falcons on the road Sunday afternoon.
Ellis and Elway were informed Tuesday morning that they tested positive for COVID-19 after experiencing mild symptoms. Ellis has been working from home since Sunday, and Elway left Denver’s training facility Monday morning.
“Based on a review of contact tracing data with the league, we are confident these cases originated independently outside team facilities. There were minimal close contacts identified for each (no players or coaches), and those individuals have been notified,” the Broncos said in a statement Tuesday.
“While our facilities are closed for Election Day, coaches are conducting their game preparations today remotely as a precaution. Our organization will remain in communication with the NFL, making all decisions in consultation with the league and based on guidance from medical experts.”
Broncos defensive coordinator Ed Donatell missed the team’s game two days ago because he tested positive for COVID-19. Offensive lineman Graham Glasgow was diagnosed with COVID-19 a couple of days before the contest.
The Broncos scored a touchdown as time expired to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers 31-30.
Denver has already had one game postponed because of COVID-19. After multiple members of the New England Patriots tested positive for the virus, the contest between the Patriots and Broncos was shifted from Week 5 to Week 6.
The Broncos are 3-4 and 1.5 games out of the playoff race in Week 9.
