An Indian YouTuber upset over the lack of viewership on his channel jumped to his death from a five-story building. He also left a suicide note alleging he was raped as a child.
The incident was reported in Saidabad, in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Chandrasekharan Dheena, a student of the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management in Gwalior.
Dheena ran a YouTube channel, Selflo, where he uploaded content related to gaming.
The 23-year-old was found in a pool of blood by the building watchman who heard a loud thud at around 5:30 a.m. local time, The Times of India reported. Dheena died on the spot.
The man lived with his parents, both of whom were asleep at the time of the incident.
"Both his parents are working. Around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, his mother returned home after office and found him sleeping in his room. She didn't want to disturb him and later his parents slept too," police officer Subba Rami told the outlet.
Dheena uploaded a lengthy suicide note on "Twitlonger" claiming that he was suffering from depression, due to which he decided to end his life. Dheena claimed that it was a rough road for him from his childhood to adulthood and that he suffered abuse.
While he did not specifically point out any person to be responsible for the alleged abuse, Dheena alleged in his suicide note that he was raped as a child and accused his parents of being negligent toward his upbringing.
"I’ve suffered all my life, beginning childhood till now. And it’s time I part ways with the world, for I can no longer bear being stuck in this loop of depression, sadness and anger anymore. I can no longer be part of this ‘experiment’ from whoever designed the universe (sic)," he wrote in the note, according to The New Indian Express.
Dheena had completed his fourth year at IIITM and was home for vacation. He was reportedly withdrawn and immersed in virtual gaming on his channel from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. Dheena barely spent any time with his parents and didn't interact with his neighbors as well.
Cops registered a case of a suspicious death in connection with Dheena's suicide.
