Derek Jeter Fractures Ankle in Yankees Loss
Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter fractured his ankle and has been ruled out of the rest of the postseason following a diving play in Game One of the American League Championship Series on Saturday.
Jeter was carried off the field after trying to field a tough ground ball up the middle of the infield at Yankee Stadium in a 6-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers in extra innings.
"His ankle's fractured, he's out," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi, following the game.
"They (doctors) talked about a three-month recovery period. It won't jeopardise his career but he will not be playing anymore for us this year."
Jeter, a 13-time All-Star, had been enjoying a strong postseason. The 38-year-old had nine hits in 27 at-bats, including a double and a triple.
