‘Designated Survivor’ Episode 10: What Happened In ‘The Oath’? An Assassin Targeted President Kirkman [RECAP]
ABC TV series “Designated Survivor” wrapped up the first half of Season 1 with its winter finale. Episode 10 began right where episode 9 left off with FBI Agent Hannah Wells (Maggie Q) being in a car accident. She was on her way to the House of Representatives in order to provide evidence against Congressman Peter MacLeish (Ashely Zukerman). He is just hours away from becoming the Vice President of the country.
Hannah Is On The Run
When Hannah doesn’t die from the car accident, a member of the conspiracy that took down the Capitol arrives on the scene of the accident to finish the job. He tries to choke Hannah to death. Fortunately, the FBI Agent thwarts his mission and flees the scene. She goes to the only person she can trust: Her tech genius and sidekick Chuck (Jake Epstein).
Chuck patches her up and she wakes up the next morning with news confirming that MacLeish is the new Vice President. Now all that is left is his swearing-in ceremony.
Hannah asks Chuck to trace the mysterious call that she received which led her to information about Catalan and his connection with MacLeish. Chuck works his magic and traces the call to a burner phone purchased from a shop. The shop’s security footage leads her to an address outside Virginia.
Richmond’s Chief Of Staff Isn’t Dead!
The person who called Hannah was a woman but when she arrives at the address of the man who bought the phone that made that call, it turns out to be Charlie Langdon, President Richmond’s Chief of Staff. He was presumed dead until now.
Langdon warns the agent of a conspiracy brewing inside the White House. But before she can get more information out of him, a shooter attempts to kill Wells. She is able to gun him down, but Langdon flees the scene. Also unfortunate is the fact that a neighbor witnesses Hannah gunning the shooter down.
Kirkman Orders To Find Wells
Meanwhile, President Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) meets the person who made the blueprints of the Capitol bombing in 2013 and learns that very few people had access to it. One of the people on this short list is none other than his current Chief of Staff Aaron Shore (Adan Canto).
He assigns his Chief Advisor Emily Rhodes (Italia Ricci) the task of finding out who the traitor might be in the White House. Aaron immediately knows something is going on between the President and Emily. His suspicions are confirmed when he catches Emily lying to him.
Meanwhile, Kirkman’s gut tells him that Hannah may know something about MacLeish. He asks his Head of Security Mike (Lamonica Garrett) to locate her and summons Speaker Kimble Hookstraten (Virginia Madsen) to know more about what Hannah had on MacLeish. Kimble isn’t able to offer any information on what the agent had on MacLeish, but she does mention that Hannah requested for blueprints of the Capitol. This piques Kirkman’s interest.
Is Aaron Shore A Traitor?
Emily does a little digging and learns that someone in the White House ordered for the blueprints of the Capitol bombing to be prevented from being accessed by the Secretary of Defense. Guess who made that call in the White House? Aaron. Emily thinks he might be a traitor. He may have supplied the blueprints to Al-Sakar.
Wells Arrives Just In Time To Stop An Assassination
Remember the shooter Wells gunned down? She found a security key card in his pocket. Chuck runs a trace on the card and discovers that it was used to access the eighth floor of a building – a building that faces the Capitol. Someone is going to try to assassinate the President during the Vice President’s swearing-in ceremony. The ceremony is going to be held outside the Capitol.
Hannah runs to the ceremony just in time to shoot at a window. It is the same window the assassin is using to aim his gun at the President. Unfortunately, we don’t see if anyone was shot since the assassin did manage to pull the trigger. However, his aim was off since Hannah shot at him.
“Designated Survivor” returns on March 8, 2017 on ABC.
