Despite Fukushima, Sarkozy sets aside 1 billion euros for nuclear power
President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that France will be investing one billion euros ($1.4 billion) for nuclear power development, hoping future research would take care of the safety angle.
We are going to devote a billion euros to the nuclear program of the future, particularly fourth-generation technology, Sarkozy told a news conference, reviewing the government's big loan stimulus lending program.
We are also going to release substantial resources from the big loan to strengthen research in the sphere of nuclear safety,he said on Monday.
France produces most of its energy from nuclear power. Quite a few countries countries, notably its EU neighbor Germany, have rejected nuclear power after the Fukushima reactor disaster in Japan.
