KEY POINTS

  • Weapons can be crafted in a new area in "The Witch Queen" expansion
  • Players must unlock weapon Patterns and gather materials before they can craft weapons
  • Crafted weapons can be improved by using them in combat and unlocking perks from other guns

The long-awaited weapon crafting feature for “Destiny 2” has finally been revealed, and it looks like things are about to get much more interesting once “The Witch Queen” goes live later this month.

The way the weapon crafting system works was revealed in Bungie’s latest TWAB, which featured over 6,000 words of information. To keep things short, here’s a quick summary of how the new crafting feature will work once the expansion is released.

The Enclave

All “Destiny 2” players will be able to visit the Enclave during the first two missions of the expansion, which will serve as the introduction to weapon crafting and their first glaive. In this area, players will get access to the crafting menus that will allow them to make their guns from scratch.

To craft a weapon, players will need an appropriate weapon Pattern that can be obtained from quests or other gameplay objectives. Patterns serve as blueprints, and they can be crafted at any time so long as players have the required materials.

After crafting a glaive, weapons from any source will have a chance to drop with the Deepsight Resonance ability, which can be used to add perks to the craftable weapon options. Deepsight Resonance must be unlocked by completing whatever objective it’s tied to. Completing the objective will let players extract a perk from the weapon and transfer it to the Enclave for future use.

Crafted weapons can be leveled up over time, and they can be Reshaped to hold different perk combos if players want.

Exotic Weapon Crafting

A neat new feature that’s also coming in “The Witch Queen” is the ability to craft exotic weapons. Players will need to find the right weapon patterns for them, but the feature will allow crafting certain exotics with perks different from their original versions.

Bungie said exotic weapon crafting is more about fine-tuning weapons to better fit certain playstyles or engagement ranges. The developers didn’t go into detail regarding the feature, but they confirmed that all three of the class-specific glaives and the new Osteo Striga SMG will be craftable.
