KEY POINTS

  • Certain enemies deal increased damage to players running the game with high frames per second
  • The issue appears to be restricted to PvE only
  • A fix is scheduled to arrive together with the big patch coming next month

A cruel bug that increases the damage enemies deal to players in “Destiny 2” was recently discovered by members of the community, prompting concern among players who thrive in the most difficult content the game has to offer.

Destiny” fans on Reddit quickly called for Bungie to fix this bug immediately, but is it really as bad as it seems?

For those who are out of the loop, players noticed that certain enemies were doing significantly more damage than intended and that reducing their maximum FPS cap would actually help them survive more hits. Reddit user u/UselessDeadMemes compiled evidence related to this bug over at r/DestinyTheGame, showing concrete proof of how the bug actually works.

Based on the footage and testing done by various “Destiny 2” community members, this bug only affected certain types of enemies, which include:

  • Cabal Colossi
  • Wizards
  • Ogres
  • Shriekers
  • Hive Ships

Videos linked in the post showed players getting killed by Cabal Colossi in just one hit, while the void blasts from Hive Tomb Ships killed players in a single volley. However, playing “Destiny 2” with lower FPS caused the player to survive the first few hits from either enemy type.

These results were obtained from tests conducted on an Xbox One and Xbox Series S, with the latter running “Destiny 2” at 160 FPS while the former ran the game on just 30 FPS.

Tests have shown that none of the other enemy types are affected by this bug, which means that raids like Deep Stone Crypt, Vault of Glass and Garden of Salvation are safe from this issue. However, players may find Last Wish to be a bit more difficult because of this bug.

Grandmaster Nightfalls will definitely be affected by this bug more depending on what strike is on the playlist. Strikes like the Proving Grounds can be extra hard for players with high FPS due to the amount of Cabal they’ll have to deal with in the mission.

PC players can simply cap their FPS to 60 or lower to avoid this bug, and those on last-gen consoles should have no problem whatsoever. Unfortunately for current-gen console owners, they’ll have to bear with this bug until the December patch where the devs plan on deploying a fix.
