'Destiny 2': How To Get The Dead Messenger Grenade Launcher

The Dead Messenger is the latest exotic grenade launcher introduced in “The Witch Queen” that fires elemental explosives based on the player’s choice. It works very similarly to the Hard Light and Borealis and fulfills a similar role.

However, being a Wave-Frame grenade launcher, it packs considerably more firepower that’s useful in both PvE and PvP. While the Dead Messenger isn’t exactly meta-defining, it still makes a great addition to any Guardian’s arsenal. Here’s how to get it.

Dead Messenger Quest

First off, players must own the season pass for “Season of the Risen” and complete its associated storyline. Empress Caiatl will leave a message at the H.E.L.M. that, when answered, will automatically give players access to the Vox Obscura quest located in Savathun’s Throne World.

In essence, Vox Obscura is very similar to the Presage and Harbinger quests for the Dead Man’s Tale and Hawkmoon, respectively. However, the main gimmick here is that the combat encounters are timed. Failing to clear each timed encounter will lead to an automatic wipe.

The quest has a minimum Light Level requirement of 1550. Players at least 10 Light below this recommendation should still be able to clear the quest with relative ease so long as they’re careful.

Lastly, this quest can be finished alone or with a fireteam of two other Guardians.

Vox Obscura Tips

Players will be fighting against the Cabal in this quest, including Unstoppable Champions. Bring a pulse rifle or hand cannon with the appropriate anti-champion mods, or bring a strong heavy weapon like a sword or Gjallarhorn.

Many enemies in this mission are tightly packed in groups. The Void Volatile effect can be tremendously helpful in almost every combat encounter in this quest.

Enemies can be skipped during the dark tunnel encounter with the shielded Psions. It’s still recommended that players defeat the champion and Scorpion Turrets since they can easily prove troublesome.

In the final arena, bring a long-ranged weapon like a rocket launcher, linear fusion rifle, or sniper rifle since the boss tends to jump around. However, a shotgun can be just as good, provided players can keep up with the boss’ mobility.
