'Destiny 2': How To Get The Gjallarhorn Catalyst
KEY POINTS
- Players need to open three hidden chests scattered across the dungeon to get the catalyst
- Players must grab fake engrams from nearby Reaver Vandals to open the chests
- The final chest will need a fair bit of communication and coordination between the fireteam members
The return of Gjallarhorn might just mark a new era in “Destiny 2’s” PvE mode. Simply speaking, no other exotic rocket launcher compares to Gjallarhorn’s damage output, but it will need the help of its unique catalyst before it can reach its peak performance.
Unlike other weapon catalysts, Gjallarhorn’s does not randomly drop from worldly sources. Instead, players will have to dive into the Grasp of Avarice dungeon once again in search of a few things of interest. Here’s a quick guide on how to get Gjallarhorn’s catalyst in “Destiny 2.”
Gjallarhorn Catalyst Location
Players will more or less have to do the entire Grasp of Avarice dungeon again for the Gjallarhorn catalyst. Inside the dungeon, players need to open three locked chests; these can only be opened if players have the Burdened by Riches debuff, which can be obtained by hunting down a Reaver Vandal near each chest.
First Chest – Entrance Tunnels
After entering the dungeon proper, follow the path as per usual, past the Shrieker floating above the chasm. Players should be able to see a group of Hive fighting three Fallen fighters on a ridge along the way to the rest of the dungeon.
Beat down the Reaver Vandal holding a scorch cannon until it drops one fake engram for each fireteam member. Then, jump back across the chasm and go to the roof over a small station. Open the chest to cleanse the debuff, then proceed with the rest of the dungeon.
Second Chest – Before The First Boss Room
The second chest can be found after the Barrel Trap and before the first boss. A lone Reaver Vandal will be inside the warehouse-like area leading up to the open ventilation shaft. Take a fake engram and head down the shaft, then turn right onto a ledge facing a wall with a Russian logo and a pile of engrams. Claim the chest, then move on.
Final Chest – The Fallen Shield Encounter
This is going to be tricky. Finish the Shield encounter, then go down the platform leading up to the boss room. Rotate the gravity cannon to face the island area with the waterfalls; a Reaver Vandal will be waiting. Make sure to have a scorch cannon ready.
Once everyone has an engram, sprint back to the island’s gravity cannon, activate it with a scorch cannon, then make a mad dash to the rooftop of the circular building on the island leading to the boss room. Players will have roughly 20 seconds to jump between islands and open the chest.
