Destiny 2 Iron Banner Fortress
Season 19's Iron Banner seemingly adds the Cabal as ambient enemies in the Crucible's Iron Banner event Bungie

KEY POINTS

  • Players will earn Iron Banner XP faster
  • Using Iron Banner gear will grant higher XP multipliers
  • Iron Banner will run for three separate weeks per season

"Destiny 2's" Iron Banner is getting some notable changes in the future following the negative feedback it received from players over the past weekend.

Come the end of January and the release of "Lightfall," the bi-seasonal PvP event is going to become more lenient when it comes to reputation gains and reward farming, Bungie confirmed in their first TWAB of 2023. In the blog post, the developers laid out their plans for the future.

First, the brunt of the reputation gain multipliers is going to be shifted from the weekly challenges to the gear and emblem bonuses. This means that players will be able to reach higher multipliers earlier in the week. Bungie estimates that this will reduce the time it takes to reset one's Iron Banner rank by 40%.

Next, to further reduce the pressure on players strapped for time, Bungie will be adding one additional week to the Iron Banner's run time, bringing the total up to three weeks. However, this also means that Trials of Osiris will have one less week to run per season.

Bungie didn't mention anything about the recent loss farming controversy over the last Iron Banner event, where players banded together to intentionally lose games for faster reputation gains. There is a possibility that the XP multiplier upgrades for gear and emblems may only encourage such behavior even more.

The XP gain multiplier will go live this Jan. 31, while the additional Iron Banner week will become available starting next. More information about new modes and dates for this event is expected in the weeks before the launch of Season 20.

Bungie was quick to address the feedback regarding the Iron Banner grind, but many problems remain within the game. Recently, many players have been experiencing server responsiveness and disconnection issues more frequently than before. This has only been made worse with the poor connection quality players have been experiencing in the Crucible this season.

"Lightfall" is set to bring some major changes to "Destiny 2," from the inclusion of an in-game loadout manager and group finder to all of the new content it has to offer. Players will be able to experience it all on Feb. 28.
