'Destiny' Release Date: How To Preload On PS3 And PS4
“Destiny” launches on Tuesday for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, but the action role-playing game can be preloaded now.
“This means if you’ve preordered ‘Destiny’ digitally via PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to begin downloading the game on PS4 or PS3 starting now,” Sony said on the PlayStation blog. “Once you’ve downloaded the game, you’ll be ready for the official Destiny launch this Tuesday.”
If you’ve already preordered the title, “Destiny” will begin downloading automatically, as long as players have enabled the “auto-download” feature on their PS3 and PS4 consoles. The system will automatically check for updates before Tuesday launch, and the game should begin downloading.
You can also download “Destiny” manually by visiting the PlayStation Store, finding the “Destiny” game page and clicking the “download” button.
“Destiny” will be available to play at 12 a.m. PDT and 3 a.m. EDT on Sept. 9.
Publisher Activision claimed that “Destiny” is the company’s “most preordered new video game IP in history” during a press release on Monday.
"’Destiny’ has been a labor of love and a remarkable creative journey for everyone at Activision and Bungie," CEO Eric Hirshberg said in a statement. "We feel that we have the opportunity to launch something huge -- not just into the gaming landscape, but the pop cultural landscape. Arriving at our launch day with this much support and enthusiasm from fans and retailers is downright exciting. Moments like this just don't come around very often."
After the game’s beta closed in late July, the Bellevue, Washington, company revealed more than 4.6 million players participated in the beta, with 853,235 concurrent players and 6.5 million guardians created. An impressive 88,384,720 games were played and more than 777,000 players used the game’s companion app.
“Destiny’s” alpha ran June 12-16 -- and Bungie reported more than 6 million games were played during the test.
