Diana Deets: Controversial Influencer Accused Of 'Paedo-Baiting' Dies
Diana Deets, a controversial California-based influencer reportedly died by suicide last Sunday. Reports say she was 24. The death of the young mum was confirmed to her Instagram and OnlyFans followers in a combined post Monday.
Deets was also known as "Coconut Kitty" among her fans.
"Last Sunday, Coconut took her own life. It's unfair. Life isn't fair. We wish you guys could get to know her the way her friends and family did," read a statement posted on her Instagram account, according to 7 News. "She was such a light to this world, truly, she was always glowing. You could never slow that girl down. She was so hard-headed and strong, but also just so kind. With the biggest heart we have ever known."
Deets, an OnlyFans model who had a fanbase running into millions, would digitally manipulate her images to look like a child, something that catapulted her to the widespread controversy that she was "paedo-baiting."
Deets strongly denied the allegations, claiming that she was only exhibiting her editing talent and not catering to pedophiles.
In the face of the "paedo-baiting" allegations that emerged In 2021, Deets maintained her innocence by saying that it was nasty online comments on her looks that drove her to heavily edit her images. "I did get tired of people commenting on my looks when I was camming. It kinda bothered me," she told Rolling Stone.
Due to the intense editing, Deets would completely transform into a girl with mermaid-like hair and saucer-shaped eyes, with her cheeks lightly dotted with adorable freckles-- an online identity she named "Coconut Kitty."
"Whether they say you're pretty or ugly or your boobs are lopsided or this or that, it doesn't matter because it was literally a character I created," she told the news outlet.
But it still left some users vying for her blood after speculations started circulating that she was promoting pedophilia. Deets was called out by many TikTokers, was issued death threats, and had people leaving scary comments on her Instagram feed. "How do you sleep at night knowing you promote paedophilia?" one person commented on one of her earliest Instagram posts.
Later, an anti-porn activist brought up allegations that Deets grooms young underage women to join OnlyFans but she again denied the claims. "It's the worst thing to be accused of and is the opposite of who I am and the purpose I see for myself," she told Vice.
"I really didn't think I was doing anything that different from a lot of influencers who also heavily edit their pictures."
Deets had a reported net worth of about $450,000, according to SNBC13. Reports say her suicide was led by the depression she plunged into due to the backlash in her line of work.
The statement went on to say that Deets was "always her true self" with family and friends.
