  • LeBron James missed the game-tying buzzer-beater against the New Orleans Pelicans Friday
  • Brandon Ingram appeared to mock James right after the game
  • The four-time MVP remains positive about making it to the play-in tournament

One of LeBron James’ former teammates may have ruthlessly mocked him during the Lakers’ recent loss.

The New Orleans Pelicans put the Los Angeles Lakers in a terrible situation after beating them at home, 114-111, Friday. It was ultimately a close game until the Pelicans managed to limit James and Anthony Davis, who had just returned from injury, to 2 out of 9 shooting combined in the fourth quarter.

Nevertheless, the Lakers still had the chance to force it into overtime in the dying seconds, but James missed the three-pointer to tie the game. As the Pelicans celebrated, Brandon Ingram was seen and heard seemingly ridiculing his former teammate as he appeared to yell “LeBrick” to the crowd.

The ex-Laker played a terrific game for New Orleans, finishing the game with 29 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. CJ McCollum, meanwhile, led all Pelicans' scorers with 32 points.

However, Ingram also noted that the Pelicans’ defensive efforts down the stretch played a huge role in the team’s win.

“We had some poise tonight,” Ingram said after the game. “Late in that game, it was us scoring, them scoring, us trying to get rebounds, stops and pushing our pace and then late down the stretch we had some good execution. CJ made some tough shots. CJ hit some big free throws at the end of that game. Everybody was locked in on the defensive end.”

Despite having a rough fourth quarter, James and Davis still combined for a staggering 61 points.

Addressing the Lakers’ situation after the tough loss, James insisted that they are still in the game until the league declares that they are officially eliminated.

"Until it says we are eliminated, then it doesn't,” the four-time MVP stressed post-game. “When that happens, then we'll know what our destiny is, but until then, we keep pushing forward," he pointed out.

The Lakers are now at the 11th spot in the rankings and would need to win as many games as possible in order to make it to the play-in tournament. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel is well aware of it and is already focused on winning the next game against Denver Nuggets.

“Win as many games as we can, ” Vogel said of the team’s status. “It’s gonna be tough to catch [the Pelicans] obviously now with the lead they have and the tiebreaker, but we have plenty of time to win as many games as we can down the stretch and see what happens with San Antonio.”

“As a coaching staff, you turn your attention to whatever you got to do to prepare for Denver,” he added. “Put this one behind us. We competed, we fell short. We have to beat Denver. Start the recovery now.”
