Nicki Minaj has already confirmed that she and Meek Mill have broken up. But while the rapper shared the news, she understandably kept the reason behind their breakup a secret. A source close to her and her ex, however, has reportedly told TMZ why she decided to call it quits with Mill.

The two reportedly had a “nuclear” fight during Minaj’s birthday getaway in Turks and Caicos. A source said that Minaj was not happy that Mill spent most of the trip with his friends instead of Minaj, who was there to celebrate her birthday. Minaj reportedly called out Mill for his actions, and the two had a fight which prompted him to leave the island. Minaj reportedly called things off shortly after the fight.

The source added that despite rumors that Mill was cheating, the breakup was mostly prompted by the fight and other “small stuff.”

Minaj started posting cryptic messages on Instagram, which seemed to be alluding to the demise of her relationship with Mill. The “Truffle Butter” rapper finally broke her silence regarding the issue early this month via a tweet. “To confirm, yes I am single,” Minaj said. “Focusing on my work & looking forward to sharing it with you guys really soon. Have a blessed New Year. Love u.”

Prior to Minaj’s confirmation, fans noticed that she and Mill unfollowed each other on Instagram. Minaj also hinted at the breakup by quoting Beyonce’s song “Best Thing I Never Had.” Posting a photo of blue Chanel slides, Minaj said in the caption: “Thank God you blew it. Thank God I dodged the bullet. So over u. Baby good lookin out.”

Minaj and Mill started dating in early 2015. In an interview with GQ, Minaj revealed that it was Mill who pushed for them to be in an exclusive relationship.
