Did Prince Charles Outrank Dad Prince Philip Before He Retired In 2017?
Prince Charles and Prince Philip hold very different titles as members of the royal family.
On the online forum site Quora, royal fans argued on whether or not the future king has outranked his dad before he retired two years ago.
Royal fan Richard Craig said that Prince Charles has not outranked the Duke of Edinburgh even though he will one day become king because the consort, which is Prince Philip, comes directly after the monarch in the Order of Precedence.
John Pray, a graduate from the University of Western Ontario, said that Prince Philip outranks all the men in the royal family except during some conditions wherein Prince Charles outranks Prince Philip.
“So, basically Prince Philip outranks all men in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth at all times except by Parliament so, at the state opening of Parliament, Charles outranks his father. Charles also acts as regent when his mother is out of the country, is ill, or for some other legal or medical reason cannot perform the constitutional duties as the Sovereign, when Charles is acting in this capacity, he outranks Prince Philip,” he wrote.
Prince Philip retired from his official duties as the Duke of Edinburgh two years ago due to his old age. He is currently 97 years old and is not seen in public as often as before.
But earlier this year, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband got involved in a major controversy. His Land Rover collided with a Kia outside Sandringham estate, which left the people in the other vehicle injured. Weeks later, Prince Philip announced that he has decided to give up his driver’s license.
In related news, Prince Charles made headlines last week after he celebrated his 50th anniversary as the Prince of Wales. Her Majesty threw a huge celebration for her eldest son at the Buckingham Palace at that time. The gathering was attended by the members of the royal family.
