Did Robert Downey Jr. Reveal A Big ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Spoiler?
“Avengers: Endgame” spoilers are being kept top-secret, but Marvel actors have a really hard time keeping spoilers to themselves. It seems like Robert Downey Jr. may be the latest to have given away a plot point.
Downey stars in an Audi promo video released earlier this month. The Tony Stark/Iron Man actor talks about using a car in “Avengers: Endgame,” which is a bit weird since Tony is supposedly dying on a spaceship.
In the video, Downey says he needs to drive the car they’re promoting, the Audi e-tron GT, but he is told he has driven it already. “As Tony Stark in ‘Avengers 4,’ out in theaters in spring 2019, I did, but this is us now, buddy,” he says as he looks directly into the camera. Watch the promo video below:
In the “Avengers: Endgame” trailer, Iron Man appears to be on the Guardians of the Galaxy ship, the Benatar, and he records a message saying that food and water have run out. It looks like he is dying, and it doesn’t seem like an Audi would be lying around on a spaceship.
Iron Man driving a car doesn’t necessarily mean he gets off the spaceship. He could be driving it in flashbacks or if other Avengers go back in time (which is a rumor many believe), he could be driving the car. He might even have hallucinations about luxury vehicles as he gets closer to death.
However, in all likelihood, it probably reveals that he does get saved. It would be pretty weird for Marvel to reveal Tony Stark is dying and then have his whole storyline just be him starving in space. He’ll probably get rescued by Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) or even another hero.
Downey likely didn’t realize that fans wouldn’t expect Iron Man to be driving a car in “Avengers 4.” The promo video was released the same day as the trailer, so the actor may have been unaware that Marvel would attempt to make it look like Iron Man was dying in space.
In any case, Downey still isn’t the Mark Ruffalo of the cast. The Hulk actor famously revealed the entire ending of “Avengers: Infinity War” several months before the film’s release. Expect him to be less loose-lipped ahead of next year’s big movie.
“Avengers: Endgame” will be released on April 26, 2019.
