Did Julian Marquez really blow his chance to get with Miley Cyrus? Maybe, maybe not.

Following his thrilling submission win at UFC 258 last weekend, Marquez used his post-fight interview to take a chance and invite Cyrus to be his Valentine.

Much to the surprise of basically everyone in the mixed martial arts (MMA) community, the "Hannah Montana" actress actually acknowledged Marquez’s invitation and responded.

The two then engaged in a brief back-to-back, which ended in Marquez proposing that Cyrus get a henna tattoo of his moniker on her stomach.

People cringed at Marquez’s request and believed that he had fumbled his chance at a possible date with the pop superstar.

An Instagram story from Cyrus the day after didn’t help Marquez’s case.

According to the UFC middleweight, however, he’s actually still in contact with the pop superstar, and they’ve actually become friends.

“She shot me a DM (direct message), we spoke, and she’s cool, man. Like, legitimately, there’s nothing crazy. Everyone’s like ‘You missed your shot!' Actually, no, I didn’t miss my shot. I have the same exact shot as I did prior, the only difference is that she knows who I am, she follows me. Miley’s a friend now,” Marquez said in an interview with Line Movement MMA’s James Lynch.

Marquez has long been a fan of Cyrus, and he has spoken about it publicly before. He revealed that he grew up watching and listening to Cyrus’ work, and has even gone to her concerts.

At UF 258, Marquez actually walked out to the cage to a Miley Cyrus song.

Marquez then clarified that he isn’t actually trying to be romantically linked to Cyrus.

“Yes, I love her. She’s amazing, she’s one of the greatest singers in my point of view, but I’m not trying to date Miley. Miley’s got a bunch of stuff going on. That’s a dope friend, and I’m going to keep that dope friend,” he continued.

If Marquez did end up becoming friends with Cyrus, then his unusual post-fight call-out worked after all.
