Die Fledermaus performed at the Theater an der Wien, Vienna in July and August 2010
Die Fledermaus has three acts and is based on a farce by Julius Roderich Benedix, a German playwright with a Le réveillon, a French vaudeville play by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, also serving as inspiration for Strauss.
The operetta premiered in Theater an der Wien in 1874 and has been part of its regular repertoire for some time. Die Fledermaus later made its debut in New York at the Stadt Theatre in 1874 and in London at the Alhambra Theatre in 1876.
Cornelius Meister will be conducting the orchestra and Philipp Himmelmann serves as the director. Actors include Kurt Streit as Gabriel von Eisenstein, Nicola Beller Carbone as Rosalinde and Juanita lascarro as Adele.
In addition Florian Boesch stars as Dr Kalke (Frosch), Jacek laszczkowski as Prince Orlofsky, Rainer Trost as Alfred, Markus Butter as Frank and Erik Årman as Dr. Blind. The operetta will be performed in German.
Dates include the 15th, 17th, 20th, 22nd, 25th, 27th and 29th July as well as the 3rd, 5th, and the 8th August 2010. The venue is located at Linke Wienzeile 6 which is close to many of the hotels Vienna has to offer.
Every performance is expected to be a sensation and is definitely not to be missed. The action is fast and turbulent as each player succumbs to their sensual temptations in a single evening. Die Fledermaus will appeal to people who find normal opera somewhat boring.
