Dina Lohan DWI: Newly Sober Actress's Mom Arrested On Drunken Driving Charges [PHOTO]

The DWI apple doesn’t seem to fall far from the tree in the Lohan family. Dina Lohan, 50-year-old momager to beleaguered actress Lindsay Lohan, was pulled over in Long Island, N.Y., for speeding on Thursday night and subsequently arrested on charges of drunk driving.

In a press release, New York State police said Lohan was pulled over after officers observed her driving on the Northern State Parkway at approximately 77 mph in a 55 mph zone. Lohan reportedly tested positive for a blood alcohol content of 0.2, more than double the legal limit of 0.08, meaning that she had likely consumed alcohol at a rate of 5-6 drinks per hour before being pulled over.

New York Police stated that during the arrest, Lohan claimed she was injured, but later retracted those claims when emergency workers arrived at the scene and couldn’t identify any visible injuries.

"State Police called an ambulance to have Lohan evaluated," the police stated. "When emergency personnel arrived and evaluated Lohan, there were no injuries and she recanted her claim."

Police issued Lohan two separate traffic tickets for traveling above the speed level and driving under the influence. The statement concluded by saying that Lohan “was later released to a sober third party and has a scheduled court appearance on Sep. 24 in Nassau County’s First District Court.

It’s no secret that Lindsay Lohan -- who has been arrested six times for charges relating to driving under the influence -- isn’t the only member of her family to suffer from substance abuse issues, but it did mark the first time that Dina was arrested for such a charge. Last October, during a conversation that was recorded and leaked to the press, Lindsay Lohan called her father and claimed that she and Dina had gotten into a fight, and that her mother was on cocaine. Lindsay responded to the ensuing media reports, by saying that she had been upset at her mom and had fabricated the claims.

Dina Lohan has also recently suffered from financial difficulties, and as of Oct. 2012, was in $1.3 million of debt.

In January, Dina Lohan revealed in an interview with the New York Daily News that her ex-husband Michael Lohan had beat and raped her during their 22-year-marriage, and that baby Lindsay had been a witness to the violence. Lohan reportedly held a meeting with the newspaper at a Long Island hotel, where she showed reporters medical records and police reports from an incident decades earlier, when Michael Lohan reportedly got violent with her after a night of drinking and cocaine, and left her with a black eye.

According to Dina Lohan, the photographs were taken in 1986 after a night out when Lindsay was left at home. She said that she and Michael went out to dinner at a restaurant in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., where he gradually got drunk and high on cocaine. As Michael’s drug and alcohol consumption increased, so did his erratic behavior, said Dina Lohan.

“When we left he was drunk-driving and suddenly he started screaming, ‘Get the f--- out of the car!’” she recounted. That’s when she says her ex-husband reached over and punched her below her right eye with his clenched fist.

Dina Lohan claimed that immediately after the incident, she called her parents, who took her to a hospital in Long Island. According to hospital records, she was admitted on Dec. 4, 1986, and treated for “blunt trauma” to her face, the tabloid article said.

Lohan also alleged that the abuse continued until her ex-husband was eventually jailed for securities fraud charges. “When Lindsay saw the photo, she was furious,” said Dina Lohan. “She said, ‘Tell the world! Talk about it!’”

“She saw a lot of crazy stuff,” her mother said. “I want the world to know the root of her problems.”
