Director Sean Baker has shut down Bella Thorne’s claims that she is working with him on a film about OnlyFans.
“I would like to make it clear that the news of me making a film (documentary or fiction narrative) about OnlyFans and using Bella Thorne as research is false. I’m NOT attached to this project,” the indie film director said in a statement via Twitter on Friday, Aug. 28.
Last week, Thorne said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that one of the reasons she joined the subscription platform was to do some research for a movie she was making with Baker, who directed the indie films “The Florida Project” and “Tangerine.”
But Baker explained that he currently has two projects that he has been working on for years, and neither of them involves Thorne or OnlyFans.
The director said that he did have a conversation with the actress earlier this month to discuss a possible collaboration in the future. The project, Baker said, would be about Thorne’s “life and the circumstances leading to her joining OnlyFans.”
“On that call, I advised her team to consult with sex workers and address the way she went about this as to NOT hurt the sex work industry,” Baker explained.
“I am an ally and have literally devoted my career to tell stories that remove stigma and normalize lifestyles that are under attack. I would never do anything that could possibly hurt the community,” Baker said, before emphasizing that news saying otherwise were fake.
This came after OnlyFans creators, who earn by sharing content to paying subscribers, cried foul over Thorne’s decision to join the platform and later failing to deliver on her promise to share nude photos for $200.
The site, which is known for its adult content, recently issued a $50 cap on exclusive content and a $100 cap on tips, which some creators on the platform have blamed on the former Disney star for the changes, Variety reported.
Thorne later apologized, saying “I wanted to bring attention to the site, the more people on the site the more likely of a chance to normalize the stigmas, And in trying to do this I hurt you.”
Thorne joined OnlyFans on Aug. 19, charging $20 per month to subscribers. The former Disney star raked in over $1 million just 24 hours after launching her page.
