Director Spike Lee Thinks Prince Harry's Facebook Alias Was Inspired By Him
Prince Harry once created a fake Facebook account under the moniker Spike Lee, which may have been inspired by the American film director with the same name.
After the details of the fake social media account were made public, director Spike Lee found out that Prince Harry used his name so he could use Facebook. Members of the royal family, specifically the working royals, are not allowed to have personal social media accounts.
During his interview on “Today” to promote the Oscar-nominated, BAFTA-winning film “BlacKkKlansman,” Lee shared how he reacted to the news of Prince Harry using his name. He said that he previously had a conversation with Prince William where he asked the second in the line to throne why he thought his younger brother would pick his name for his account.
Unfortunately, Prince William couldn’t give the director an answer. According to Vulture, it is possible that Prince Harry is a huge cinephile that’s why he thought of using as director’s name or he simply assumed that the name Spike Lee is extremely common in the United States.
According to The Telegraph, Prince Harry actually went by the fake name Spike Wells up until 2012, and he chose the name, not because of the director but because his friends referred to him as Spike. A Facebook account with the name Spike Wells was previously discovered with its 400 plus friends, the majority of which belonged to Britain’s richest men and women.
The account was taken down in the wake of Prince Harry’s scandal in Las Vegas. While there, the Duke of Sussex was photographed naked at a luxury hotel during a party.
According to Marie Claire, Prince William also had a fake and private social media account under the name Steve. This was the nickname he used while he was in college. However, the account has also been deleted.
At present, only Sarah Ferguson, Princess Eugenie, and Princess Beatrice are known to have public social media accounts.
