Getting a wakeup call from William Shatner would be exciting for any space lover. Getting a wakeup call from Shatner speaking as if he were Capt. James Tiberius Kirk WHILE in space? Otherworldly.

That's exactly the thrill the six members of the space shuttle Discovery got this morning, when Shatner's personalized message woke them up. It was followed by the theme of the original Star Trek, which Shatner starred on for four years in the 1960s and 1970s.

The space shuttle Discovery is embarking on its final voyage after 30 years of service. After it lands on earth for the final time, NASA will retire the shuttle to a space museum.
