  • His son, 24, was arrested on homicide charges in connection to the discovery
  • A knife believed to be the murder weapon was found at the home

Authorities in Orange County, California, arrested a local man after his father was found dead Saturday in the Irvine home they shared, according to police and media.

Officers of the Irvine Police Department (IPD) were responding to a Windwood residence over reports of an adult male being injured when they discovered a deceased man.

Police did not disclose the name of the man, but KTLA 5 identified him as 69-year-old Bruce Shipper.

Prior to the police visit, a friend of Shipper stopped by the elderly man's home to check on him after he didn't show up for work Saturday.

However, Shipper's son, Tyler Shipper, stopped the friend from entering the premises, the IPD said in a statement.

Tyler, 24, "appeared disheveled" at the time, according to police.

Police arrested Tyler on a homicide charge after both he and his father's friend called 911.

Tyler did not appear injured, the IPD noted.

A knife suspected of being used in the crime was recovered at the scene.

"The motive remains under investigation," police said in the statement.

The IPD has urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Madalyne Siebe at 949-724-7098 or msiebe@cityofirvine.org.

In a similar story, a Philadelphia man is facing several charges after his father was found dead inside a freezer.

Jack Dinh, 27, was arrested on charges of homicide, possessing instruments of crime and abuse of a corpse.

The body of Dinh's 54-year-old father, Thi Dinh, was discovered in the freezer box of a home on the 1200 block of Snyder Avenue in Philadelphia on Dec. 23, 2022, 6 ABC reported.

Family members responded to the residence for a wellness check, but they allegedly found blood and a knife inside.

Jack is currently being held without bail at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility.

The motive of the crime is reportedly still under investigation.

Parricides, or the killing of one's father, mother, spouse, children and/or close relatives, account for approximately 2% of all homicides, according to a study published in the National Criminal Justice Reference Service.

The perpetrators of parricides are typically white middle-class males without a history of prior criminal convictions, according to the research.

Most parricides involve single-victim, single-offender situations, with firearms more likely to be used against fathers than mothers, the study found.
