Disney+ Announces New ‘Frozen’ Short For Olaf the Snowman
Do you want to build a snowman? It’s not even Fall yet, but Disney knows that “Frozen” fans are always up for some quality time with their favorite snow creature, Olaf. They’re releasing a new short featuring the snowman this October.
“Once Upon a Snowman” is a Disney+ Original Short. The streaming platform released a poster, revealing that the new animated project is due out on Oct. 23.
No details were given about the new short, but the “Once Upon a Snowman” poster features Olaf without his trademark carrot nose. It also looks like Elsa is casting some sort of magic over him. Her face is off-screen, but her iconic pink cape and black sleeve (her outfit in much of the first “Frozen” movie) are seen.
Star Josh Gad returns as the voice of Olaf. He announced his return for the short Tuesday night while hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (which airs on the Disney-owned ABC network). “Because Disney and I just can’t get enough of each other, we collaborated on a new original Olaf short called 'Once Upon a Snowman,' which is coming to Disney+ exclusively Oct. 23,” Gad said.
The brief announcement was a segue for a skit where Gad tries to help kids learn remotely as Olaf—but it doesn’t seem like Gad is equipped with the knowhow to be a teacher.
Gad previously reprised his role as Olaf for a series of shorts called “At Home With Olaf” earlier this year when the country was in lockdown mode. The shorts, mostly under a minute each, were released on YouTube for free. The new short is expected to be longer and will only be available to those with a paid subscription to Disney+.
“Frozen,” released in 2014, made $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office. Last year’s “Frozen II” made $1.45 billion.
