Disney Drops ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Trailer [Watch]
Disney has unveiled the first teaser trailer of “Hocus Pocus 2" and gave viewers a glimpse of the resurrection of the Sanderson sisters who are back in town for revenge.
The trailer, which dropped Tuesday, sees the reunion of Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy and Bette Midler and their return to Salem to stir trouble before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve. It is up to three high-school students to stop the 17th-century Sanderson witches from seeking revenge on modern-day Salem.
The clip sees two young girls, played by Whitney Peak and Belissa Escobedo, browsing a magic shop with the shop owner telling them, “You know, legend has it, it’s on the 16th birthday that a witch gets her powers.”
The trailer proceeds to show the girls joining hands and performing a spell in a cemetery after lighting the “Black Flame” candle.
The girls chant, “Another year begins anew; itch-it-cop-mystica, maiden, mother and crone too.”
As the chanting continues, an eye opens in the book of shadows startling a black cat.
“We call on thee with one request. Itch-it-cop-ita-mystica. Help our intentions manifest,” the girls continued before a flame suddenly appears on the candle much to the surprise of the chanters.
The ground breaks and a message on the screen appears and says, “Some legends never die.”
Immediately, the voice of the first of the Sanderson sisters, Winifred (Midler) could be heard saying, “Lock up your children! Yes, Salem, we’re back.” The three witches are finally revealed to rejoice upon their return to town.
Towards the end of the trailer, a man greets the trio in what seems to be a Halloween fair and says, “Hey, it’s the Sanderson sisters; I bet you’re looking for the stage.” Winifred replied, “Always.”
"Hocus Pocus 2" also stars Hannah Waddingham, Sam Richardson, Doug Jones, Lilia Buckingham, Froyan Gutierrez and Tony Hale.
The original “Hocus Pocus” from 1993 revolved around the Sanderson sisters in Salem, Massachusetts, who were resurrected after the lighting of the Black Flame candle during a full moon on All Hallow’s Eve. The witches failed in their attempt from becoming immortal after they faced off with two kids played by Omri Katz and Thora Birch.
The sequel to the beloved comedy-thriller classic premieres on Disney+ on Sept. 30.
