Disney+ Facing Server Issues On Its First Day Of Streaming
Amassing two million subscribers well before beginning to stream is some feat, yet launch day has seen Disney+ experiencing some immense setbacks.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new service has struck a roadblock in the form of technical issues. Downdetector noted that just over 8,000 users were experiencing difficulties in a multitude of varied categories at the peak of problems. Issues ranged from setting up profiles and signing in to the service, to shows never loading and content being invisible.
Debuting on Tuesday morning to giddy and excited fans, Disney+ quickly alerted viewers that not all was right with the mouse’s brand new toy. Various pages gave notice that the platform was experiencing server connectivity issues and that users should “try again later” if the problem persisted.
Not all server issue screens are the same, as can be showcased in the various angry Tweets fans have been posting in the wait for the streaming service to right itself.
Of course, Disney’s customer service line remains well-clogged with other frustrated subscribers as well. However, it is worth noting that server issues are somewhat typical with massive premieres of different services and entertainment. Similar issues have previously affected other streaming platforms for big premieres, as well as big video game launches like "Call of Duty."
Launching simultaneously across a number of different carriers, such as Verizon and PlayStation, Disney+ was certainly primed for a rude awakening. Fans are still patiently waiting for a glimpse of the over 7,000 shows and nearly 500 movies Disney has allocated to the service, which includes original programming such as the highly-anticipated new “Star Wars” series, “The Mandalorian.”
It's unclear if and when said issues will be resolved completely, though Downdetector did provide a site map for Disney+ server outages, so make sure you're not in the affected area before ranting on social media or to Disney's currently backed-up customer service for no reason.
Disney hopefully will figure out the kinks soon enough, as additional launches for the service are planned for Puerto Rico, New Zealand and Australia on November 19. More releases are planned for Western Europe on March 31, 2020.
