Disney Plans Four 3D Reissues after the Success of The Lion King'

Surprised by the great success of “The Lion King 3D,” which has brought in $80 million in the U.S. ever since it re-released on Sept. 16, Disney has officially announced to reissue 4 other animated features in 3-D on Tuesday.

The four films will appear in theater in the next two years. “Beauty and the Beast”, released in 1991, which won an Oscar for best picture, will debut in Jan. 2012. Following it, the Pixar’s sea-adventure “Finding Nemo” will premiere in Sept. 2012.

It will follow the similar plan in 2013. “Monsters Inc” will be reissued in Jan. 2013. Finally, the classic 1989 romance “Mermaid” will swim onto 3-D screens in Sept. 2013.

“Great stories and great characters are timeless, and at Disney we’re fortunate to have a treasure trove of both,” the president of Walt Disney Studios Alan Bergman stated.

“We’re thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3-D –- and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”
