Disneyland Apologizes To Couple After Employee Ruins Their Wedding Proposal
KEY POINTS
- The couple was standing in front of the Sleeping Beauty castle in Paris' Disneyland
- The ring was snatched by the employee, who ushered them down the stairs
- The theme park has since apologized for the employee's behavior
The Disneyland in Paris has tendered an apology to a couple whose fairy tale marriage proposal was sabotaged by an overzealous employee at the theme park.
A video that is going viral on the internet shows a man going down on his knees with a ring to propose to his girlfriend as the couple stood on a dais right in front of the film franchise's iconic Sleeping Beauty castle. Almost instantly, a Disneyland employee rushes in, snatches the ring box from the man, and makes a hand gesture suggesting they climb down the stairs.
Visibly shocked at the turn of events, the woman clasps her hands across her mouth as the couple move down the stairs.
"She said yes," the man says in the video.
"Yes, that's great — over here will be even better," the Disneyland worker says as he directs the couple to follow him.
Speaking about the incident, a Disney spokesperson said, "We regret how this was handled," according to Yahoo.com. "We have apologized to the couple involved and offered to make it right."
The awkward encounter was originally posted on Reddit by the couple's best friend, who said they had received permission from another Disneyland employee to propose on the dais.
The second unidentified employee has since been uniformly criticized for his boorish actions.
Fellow Redditors took to the comment section to slam the employee, compelling the theme park into issuing an apology. However, it wasn't clear if the said person was fired.
"He didn’t just motion him down, the employee snatched the wedding ring out of his hands. That’s pretty high on my list of things to not touch," one user wrote in the comments.
"Trying to figure out if dude was happier enforcing rules or ruining the moment. He was legitimately happier for ruining the moment," said another. "Grabbing the ring was insane and across any acceptable line. My wife’s wedding ring is one of the most expensive things we own and If someone had ripped it out of my hands while I was in the process of giving it to her for the first time I would have gone ballistic," a third person said.
Disneyland is flooded with requests to propose, enough so that they have created a page on the rules. "While you are not required to contact Disney in order to propose, you may want to if you'd like to plan something more elaborate," the page said.
The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim even lets guests alert a PhotoPass cast member to take pictures of an engagement.
