‘Divergent’ Star Miles Teller Shares His Thoughts On What Will Happen To ‘Ascendant’
The future of the “Divergent” series remains unknown, and one of the movie franchise’s stars says even the actors themselves do not know what will happen next.
“I have not talked to anyone,” said Miles Teller, who played Peter, in an interview with E! News. “We haven’t filmed in like a year and a half… My phone’s not ringing for it.”
The actor previously told The Hollywood Reporter that his return to the franchise is unlikely, although he did say that filming the three installments in the series — “Divergent,” “Insurgent” and “Allegiant” — was something he enjoyed immensely.
“Ascendant,” the last installment of the movie series based on Veronica Roth’s book, is heading to the small screen. Lionsgate announced the news via Deadline, saying the made-for-TV movie will pave the way for a series, which will also be based on Roth’s books but will not feature the characters fans have already known and loved.
Shailene Woodley, who starred in the franchise as Tris Prior, said during an appearance on the “Today” show that she has not spoken to the people behind the franchise yet so she can’t say whether or not she’ll be part of the upcoming project. Prior to that, however, the actress hinted that she will no longer reprise her role.
“I didn’t sign up to be in a television show,” the actress told Screen Rant. “Out of respect to the studio and everyone involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.”
Aside from Woodley, Ansel Elgort, who played Caleb Prior in the movie series, has also hinted at his departure. Speaking to The Huffington Post, Elgort said he was sad that he was not able to say goodbye to his cast mates and that he was really looking forward to giving the franchise a good ending.
“Ascendant” was originally slated for a June 2017 theatrical release.
