DMX Arrested: Troubled Rapper Nabbed For DUI And Driving Without A License
Troubled rapper DMX has been arrested yet again and charged with driving under the influence and driving without a license in South Carolina.
According to TMZ, the 42-year-old rap star was pulled over by highway patrol at around 3 a.m. on Friday morning. The gossip website reports that DMX, born Earl Simmons, left Greenville County Detention Center at roughly 4 a.m. There is no confirmation on whether or not he has an attorney.
The controversial MC was quick to respond to news of his DUI arrest, saying that various reports had it all wrong. "Allegations about DMX being arrested for drunk driving are false,” DMX’s publicist told MTV News in a written statement. “He was arrested early this morning but quickly released. X was given a breathalyzer test and easily passed it.”
As the Associated Press points out, DMX was nabbed in nearby Spartanburg County for driving without a license back in February. "No, I didn't have a license ... put the cuffs on me; brought me here. I paid the money,” he told a local Fox station after that arrest, according to MTV News. “Basically, just five hours wasted for nothing.”
Prior to his February 2013 arrest, DMX was arrested in August 2011. According to TMZ, the rapper was driving 102 mph in a 65 mph zone when he was pulled over and arrested for speeding, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
The multiplatinum rapper has a complicated history with the law. As TMZ notes, he has been arrested more than a dozen times for charges ranging from animal cruelty, gun possession and cocaine and marijuana possession to criminal mischief, impersonating a federal agent, DUI, attempted carjacking, theft and more.
"He is back at his home in South Carolina and we are continuing our focus on his upcoming album and acting roles," his publicist told MTV News.
