A doctor shared a now-viral video of what COVID-19 patients may see before they die, urging people to take the virus seriously.

Dr. Kenneth Remy, a critical care physician at Washington University Medical Center, recently shared a video on Twitter in his attempt to urge people to take precautions against COVID-19. In the video, Remy is in PPE gear as he hovers over the camera, giving a view of what COVID-19 patients likely see the moment before they die.

"I hope that the last moments of your life don't look like this," Remy said, as the video provides a view of what the patients can see as they are being intubated. "Because this is what you'll see at the end of your life if we don't start wearing masks when we're out in public. When we don't practice social distancing. When we don't wash our hands frequently."

In the tweet, Remy also said that he didn't want to be "the last person that looks in your frightened eyes."

As of the writing of this article, the video has been viewed over 89,000 times since it was posted on Saturday.

In an interview with CBS News, Dr. Remy said that he has called 11 different families "in the middle of the night" to let them know that their relative has passed because of COVID-19.

"It's one of the worst phone calls you could ever make," Remy told the news outlet. "This is something I don't want for anyone."

He shared the video at a time when many states have been reporting increases in COVID-19 cases. So far, over 40 U.S. states have reported an increase in cases, with very few states reporting a decrease, Healthline reported. According to the outlet, New Mexico logged the largest increase in new COVID-19 cases among the states in the past week, followed by Virginia and Arizona.

There have also been recent concerns about the increase in COVID-19 cases among younger children, with a reported 28% increase in cases of children testing positive for COVID-19 from the last two weeks, Healthline said.

As of Thursday, the Johns Hopkins University of Medicine has logged 12,759,949 COVID-19 cases and 262,080 COVID-19 deaths in the U.S.
