'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness' Director Addresses Patrick Stewart's Professor X Rumors
"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" director Sam Raimi opened up about the rumors of Professor X, portrayed by Patrick Stewart in the "X-Men" movie series, making an appearance in the upcoming Marvel movie.
The 62-year-old director said he couldn't promise fans that Stewart will be there in the Doctor Strange sequel, and that he could reveal no further information on the topic.
"I couldn't promise you that Patrick Stewart's in the picture," Raimi told Fandango Wednesday. "That's all that Marvel will let me say."
The rumors began when the official trailer of the movie was dropped in February. In one of the scenes, Doctor Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) can be seen wearing handcuffs and a mystery voice says, "We should tell him the truth."
Fans immediately suspected that it was "X-Men" star Stewart's voice.
Besides Stewart's appearance in the movie, the two minutes, the 17-second trailer also teased a fight between Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen) and Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson).
The official teaser of the movie that was dropped alongside "Spider-Man: No Way Home" movie in December, teased an evil version of Doctor Strange and supervillain Baron Mordo.

The first installment of the "Doctor Strange" franchise was released in 2016. No individual movie based on this character was released after that. However, Strange's character was featured in other Marvel movies like "Avengers: Infinity War," "Avengers: Endgame" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home."
Cumberbatch opened up about the similarities between his character and Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.), in March.
"If you're not a people person, how would you do that? Well, I mean, the trademark snarkiness, the kind of off-the-cuff wit and put down, the sort of the ego behind that, but also the enjoyable aspect of that, which is something we've seen very prevalent with Tony Stark," Cumberbatch told KCRW.
Actor Benedict Wong, who played Wong's character in the movie, recently revealed that fans will get to see an "interesting shift" in the sequel.
"I call it Phase Wong," Wong told Empire Magazine. "It's a nice, interesting shift. Wong has taken on a new role, and that dynamic changes between them [Wong and Strange] both."
"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" is slated to release in theaters on May 6.
