‘Doctor Who’ Season 10 Spoilers: Is The Regeneration Coming Soon?
“Doctor Who” fans have good reason to be worried for the Doctor’s life. With Peter Capaldi’s last season winding down, fans know the regeneration is imminent. The trailer for next week’s episode makes it seem like the Twelfth Doctor’s death could happen in Season 10, episode 8.
The trailer follows up on last week’s episode, where the Doctor made a deal with the evil Monks to help them take over the world. Now humanity believes they’ve always worshipped the Monks, but it seems they haven’t been able to affect Bill (Pearl Mackie) in the same way. In order to make them leave, Bill will have to take down the Doctor. “All you have to do is find whoever opened the door to the Monks and just kill them,” Missy (Michelle Gomez) says in the trailer for the BBC America drama.

The promo video for episode 8, titled “Lie of the Land,” hints that Bill will find the courage to kill the Doctor. She is seen shooting him twice. Watch the promo video below:
Does that mean his regeneration is coming? While it seems unlikely that he’d survive a gunshot wound, the Doctor may find a way. Peter Capaldi is expected to be in the next few episodes — including the Christmas special.
Last month, Capaldi told Graham Norton that he had already filmed his regeneration scene. However, he added that he still had to do the Christmas episode. “I have done the death of my character,” Capaldi said. Did they film scenes out of order? Will there be flashbacks? Will two Doctors be seen at once? “I can’t tell you what’s going to happen, but it’s going to be very interesting,” he teased.

It isn’t clear when the Doctor’s regeneration will happen, but it’s worth noting that the synopsis teases Bill might have to kill the Time Lord. If it were actually going to happen, it probably wouldn’t be given away in the episode summary. It seems more likely that episode 8 is a red herring.
“The world is gripped by a mass delusion and only Bill Potts can see the truth,” the episode 8 synopsis teases. “When even the Doctor is fighting on the wrong side, it’s up to Bill to convince the Time Lord that humanity is in deadly danger. And if she can’t do that, she may just have to kill her best friend…”
A regeneration seems particularly unlikely for episode 8, especially since the show has yet to announce who will play the new Doctor. Typically, an announcement is made before the regeneration episode. While several sources have reported that “Love Actually” alum Kris Marshall will take the role, BBC has yet to confirm the reports.
Of course, the Doctor will not be the only one changing for Season 11. “Doctor Who” showrunner Steven Moffat, who has been running the sci-fi hit since Season 5, will step down. Chris Chibnall will take over as executive producer. Fans will remember his writing in episodes such as “The Hungry Earth” and “The Magician’s Apprentice.”
“Doctor Who” airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. EDT on BBC America.
