Doctors Accidentally Cut Newborn's Face During Cesarean Because The Baby 'Moved So Much'
A newborn girl was left with a scar after the doctors accidentally cut her face during a cesarean . The incident took place at a hospital in Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast region.
According to local reports, the mother, identified as 19-year-old Darya Kadochnikova, had planned to deliver her baby naturally. However, the doctors at the public hospital told her that C-section was a safer option as the baby's position had changed. The woman was then administered intravenous anesthesia as epidural anesthesia didn’t work.
When Kadochnikova woke up post the surgery, she was shocked to find a huge cut on her daughter’s face. When confronted about the same, the doctors told her that they accidentally cut her face during the surgery. They further added that the newborn “shouldn’t have moved so much.”
Meanwhile, the mother suffered high fever following the surgery and was breastfeeding her daughter despite being on antibiotics. It was not known if the newborn’s parents will be filing a case against the hospital.
The incident comes a few months after a newborn boy in Gualeguaychu, Argentina, died after doctors failed to catch him when his mother pushed him out during delivery.
“My wife was in labor and was just about to have the baby and they asked her to push and she pushed so he would come out. He came out really fast and no-one grabbed him and he fell to the floor. The midwife didn’t have time to catch him and the obstetrician didn’t react. The only thing they did was lift him up from the floor and put him in an incubator and take him to another hospital,” Claudio Mondragon, the newborn’s father had said.
