Doctors found around 115 metal nails, a pellet and metal wire inside a man's abdomen. The incident took place in the town of Bundi in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

The items were removed from the man's body during a surgery, local media reports said Monday. Doctors believe the man may have swallowed these items. However, this could not be confirmed as the man suffered from mental illness and was undergoing treatment. The father of four was told he had these items inside his body after they were detected through an X-ray.

Dr. Anil Saini, a senior surgeon of Bundi district hospital who removed these items from the man’s body, said the nails were 2.5 inches long.

“He was brought to hospital with complaint of pain in the abdomen,” the surgeon said, according to local newspaper Hindustan Times. A CT scan was done to confirm the findings. The doctor said he was surprised to find such long nails in the man’s body. The doctor added that the patient was not in a situation to say anything about how these items found their way into his body.

The patient's brother also said the family was unaware of how the items got inside his body.

“He would leave the house in the morning and return at night. We have no clue how these items got into his body,” the brother said, adding that the man has been taking treatment for mental illness for 25 years.

The doctor told local media that the patient was recovering following the life-threatening incident as the nails could have killed him if they punctured his intestines.

In February, a case was published by Dr. Pyong Wha Choi in the American Journal of Medical Case Reports about doctors surgically removing a collection of stones, bottle caps and coins weighing 4.4 pounds from a South Korean man's stomach. The 54-year-old patient, who was not identified, complained of stomach pain and later sought help from medics.

Doctors noticed the man was bloated and could feel "something resembling small stones" when they touched his abdomen for examination. Scans showed several build-up objects "occupying the whole stomach." After questioning, the man confessed he often ingested coins and pebbles whenever he felt anxious. According to the report, the man was born with an intellectual disability.
