Does ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Have Post-Credits Scenes? Directors Refuse To Say
“Avengers: Endgame” is being advertised as the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, but can something that sounds so final have a post-credits scene? There are rumors that there could be as many as three while other rumors say there will be none at all. The directors refused to comment.
During the “Avengers: Endgame” press conference on Sunday, directors Joe and Anthony Russo dodged questions about a mid-credits or end-credits scene. “And I’m sorry we couldn’t answer that question, but we just don’t want to give any context away,” Joe said.
Almost all of the MCU movies so far have included post-credits scenes. Sometimes they’re used for just comedic effect. “Guardians of the Galaxy” used their final end-credits scene to bring in the Howard the Duck character just for laughs.
Often, however, the movies are used to tease sequels. The “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” tag introduced Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) ahead of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” “The Avengers,” notably, took both routes. The mid-credits scene showed Thanos for the first time while the end-credits scene showed the team eating shawarma after the Battle of New York.
Fans will have to wait and see if there are actually end-credits scenes in “Avengers: Endgame.” The answer will likely be revealed before April 26, though. The movie will have a premiere where hundreds of people will get to see it, and international fans will get the movies a couple of days early.
Still, the Russos hope fans will stay off the internet before heading to the theater. They think the experience will be much better spoiler-free.
“At a certain point, I’m sure we’ll write another letter this year that asks everyone to stay off the internet. I think this one has even more spoilers than the last one,” Joe Russo told Box Office Pro. “This is a culture that wants everything now, and it’s getting worse. The world is connected via social media, and information travels within seconds. If you’ve been following along with this narrative for 10 years, you’re going to want to protect yourself. It’s best to go in clean. I encourage people to go opening weekend because I’m sure everything is going to hit the internet the moment the movie hits the screen.”
So what’s the best way to find out if there’s an end-credits scene? Just stay through the “Avengers: Endgame” credits and wait.
