Does This ‘Defenders’ Teaser Video Reveal The Release Date?
Marvel and Netflix have teamed up on four superhero series, and they’ll finally bring all of New York’s heroes together for “The Defenders.” While the premiere date has been kept under lock and key, a new teaser video subtly revealed the release date.
The teaser for “The Defenders” shows Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Matt Murdoch/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) in an elevator at Midland Circle, the shady group that will bring the good guys together. Jessica notices the security camera and breaks it. However, it’s the text in the corners that’s really interesting.

The timestamp on the video ends at 08:18:20:17. August 18, 2017 is indeed a Friday, following Netflix’s trend of releasing originals right before the weekend kicks off. The other text on the video is a URL address that proves Netflix and Marvel didn’t just insert random numbers. The address — http://23.253.120.81 — leads to the New York Bulletin, the fictional newspaper that covers the trouble Danny, Luke and Daredevil get into. At the bottom of the website a small line of text reads: “Watch ‘Marvel’s The Defenders’ All Episodes Streaming Only on Netflix August 18.”
“The Defenders” will feature our heroes teaming up, but it’s just a necessity. “No one’s best friends in all of the Defenders. This is a reluctant team-up,” Ritter warned Entertainment Weekly earlier this year. Expect the team to have some trust issues.
The cast will feature supporting characters from all four individual shows, including Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), Elektra (Élodie Yung), Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), Misty Knight (Simone Missick), Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss), Stick (Scott Glenn), Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), Malcolm Ducasse (Eka Darville) and more.
“The Defenders” hits Netflix this August 18.
