“Fargo” creator Noah Hawley is still waiting for that light-bulb moment that will inspire the potential Season 4 of the FX series.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last week, Hawley admitted that he still hasn’t come up with a story for a potential new season of the Emmy-winning anthology series. “Idea-watch, 2017 — I haven’t had my Eureka moment,” Hawley said with a laugh. “But, you know, keep watching, I suppose.”

News that “Fargo” Season 3 could be the final installment of the series first made headlines when FX Networks CEO John Landgraf told The Hollywood Reporter last May that “there may never be another ‘Fargo’ unless Noah has an idea for the show that he thinks he can make as good as the prior three.”

Landgraf’s statement was seconded by Hawley himself at the ATX Television Festival in Austin last month, where he explained why “Fargo” Season 3 might be the show’s swan song.

“I wasn’t sure if there would be a second season. I wasn’t sure if there would be a third season. At end of season 1, [FX] said, ‘If you want to leave it there [that would be fine],’” Hawley said at the time. “There’s only a certain amount of storytelling you can tell in that vein. And I love telling stories in this vein, but I don’t have another one yet.”

“I always agreed with FX that the only reason to do another ‘Fargo’ is if the creative is there,” Hawley said in a separate interview with Deadline. “[So] please don’t tell people this is the end. Right now, I just can’t point to [a production start] date on the calendar.”

Hawley said that he’s turning his attention to “Legion” Season 2 and an upcoming film, so “Fargo” may not return to TV until “three years from now.”

In related news, Hawley was recently honored with two nominations at the 2017 Emmy Awards. Hawley was nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or a Dramatic Special for his works on “Fargo” Season 3, episode 1, titled “The Law of Vacant Places.”
