Does Jenelle Evans Have Custody Of Jace? ‘Teen Mom 2’ Star Talks Guardianship In Season 5 Finale Sneak Peek Video
“Teen Mom 2” star Jenelle Evans is ready to be a mother of two. After three years of caring for her grandson, Evans' mother Barbara appears to be giving up her full custody of Jace, 5, in the Season 5 finale of the series on Wednesday. The custody change comes just three months after Evans welcomed her second son, Kaiser, with boyfriend Nathan Griffith.
“You know, I did not, I never wanted to take custody of Jace. It was your decision, not mine,” Barbara tells Jenelle in a finale sneak peek. “You were doing drugs! You were gone for days and weeks at a time. … I wouldn’t have taken Jace away if I thought he was safe.”
Evans, who agreed to give her mother full guardianship in 2011, tells a different tale. “I was forced to sign custody over,” says Jenelle. “I did drugs because I didn’t have my son back. Because I was given up and I said f*** it. … It’s not like you didn’t give me any chance to even step up.”
Despite sharing some tense words, the mother and daughter eventually decided that Jace should start a new life with Evans. “You know, I don’t think we have to go back to court. There is no sense in doing that. I’ll just sign off on it,” says Barbara. “Look up schools, get a house,” she said as her requirements for giving up guardianship.
The custody discussion, however, did not occur without Barbara shedding a few tears. “The whole bottom line to this is you’re a grownup. Finally, I can see it,” Barbara says to Jenelle before she begins sobbing over the thought of losing her grandson. “I’ll miss him terribly, but he’s not my child, he’s my grandson,” she says. “It will break my heart to have him feel that I abandoned him. Like I just threw him away.”
Evans, who is planning to officially resume full custody of Jace within the next year, says she plans to keep her mother close in his life. “I don’t think he’ll think that,” she says. “It’s not like you’re never going to see him again.”
Unfortunately for “Teen Mom 2” star, her new custody agreement comes on the heels of rumors that she may not be the primary caretaker for her new son Kaiser either. WetPaint.com reports that fans have been speculating that Griffith’s mother, Doris, has been raising the newborn. Evans has since responded to the accusations, calling them laughable. “Kai lives with Nathan’s mom?! Hahaha good one!” she posted to Twitter Sunday. “Nathan’s mom lives 5 mins from us so she watches Kai for an hour while we workout ... If they MUST know.”
The Season 5 finale of “Teen Mom 2” will air Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 10 p.m. EDT on MTV.
