Does ‘Married At First Sight’ Wife Kate Have A Drinking Problem?
“Married at First Sight” spouses have to get to know each other fast, and sometimes, assumptions are made a little too quickly. In “MAFS” Season 8, episode 8, Luke accused wife Kate of having a drinking problem. Meanwhile, Kristine wondered if old photos meant Keith was still hung up on his ex on the Lifetime reality show.
Luke and Kate
Dr. Pepper Schwartz stops by because Luke has said some “alarming things to the producers and not his wife.” She talks to them separately first. Luke reveals that Kate is “persistent” about kissing when she drinks, but he still doesn’t feel that attracted to her yet.
The producers also told Dr. Pepper that Luke said Kate drinks too much. When the expert presses him, Luke admits that he thinks his wife has a problem. Then, he backtracks and says that Kate just drinks more than him. He feels like it’s a lot, but he doesn’t know what her normal is. He worries she could be using it as a coping mechanism.
When Kate goes in for her solo talk, she says that she apologized as soon as Luke told her he felt pressured to kiss her. She explains that she was kissing him at night when they were cuddling and he was shirtless. It felt natural to her to kiss her husband goodnight.
Then, Dr. Pepper brings up the drinking issue. Kate is shocked because Luke has never brought it up to her, and he sometimes is the one giving her alcohol.
When Dr. Pepper brings them both in at the same time, Luke is hesitant about making Kate uncomfortable. He finally says he is worried that she is drinking to cope with their situation, and she asks for an example. He can’t think of any, though.
Kate is frustrated that Luke brought this up with others before coming to her. She checks in with him every day to see how he’s doing, and he doesn’t actually tell her what he needs. Their session ends without much resolution.
Later, they swap phones as part of a trust activity that all the couples must do. Kate finds a contact listed as “Dirty Nasty Skank.” Luke laughs and says it’s work related, and Kate doesn’t seem upset.
They go out to dinner and reveal that they talked more after Dr. Pepper left, and they discussed their feelings. They seem OK now, and Luke admits that it’s his perception of drinking that’s coloring the way he sees Kate drinking. A drunk driver killed his best friend as a teenager, and that stopped Luke from drinking until he was about 25. He admits that Kate is fine, and he just worries too much.
She appreciates that he opened up and explained. Later, during a girls’ night, she tells her friends that she trusts him more now. Her friends think it’s weird that he brought his concerns to other people before talking to her.
Her friends wonder if he’s treating her the right way, especially after hearing that Luke has said “many times” that he isn’t attracted to her, but he also calls her “beautiful,” which is confusing. They’re worried that he might hurt her.
Keith and Kristine
When they swap phones, Kristine finds naked photos of Keith’s ex. He reveals that they were together for four and a half years. The fact that he still has these photos even though they broke up last year makes her worry that he still has feelings for this woman. She asks him to delete everything.
Pastor Cal Roberson calls and they tell him about the photos on Keith’s phone. He questions why Keith would keep the pictures, and Keith doesn’t really know. The newlywed admits that he should delete them. Kristine says that she knows Keith didn’t care about her finding the photos because he is open and honest.
AJ and Stephanie
The two seem very happy. Stephanie shares that her past relationships have had “tragic” endings. She has felt this optimistic before, and that makes her guarded. She isn’t afraid to let AJ know that she has insecurities, and he asks that she always talk to him about it when she feels that way.
They do some body painting as a fun, erotic activity. They seem to be on a good page.
Then, they talk about going out to eat while watching the football game, and AJ is suddenly frustrated. He’s hungry and getting very short with his wife, who is just trying to figure out where they should go to eat. Stephanie doesn’t like her husband’s sudden mood swings.
Will and Jasmine
These two look through each other’s phones without much drama, so they move on to the fishbowl exercise. They’re asked to reenact their first kiss and Will remembers Jasmine slightly turning her head at the altar. Jasmine claims that never happened.
They talk about their past breakups. Jasmine’s ex no longer wanted kids while Will explains that distance and communication were factors in his last breakup. Then, Jasmine asks Will about his sexual fantasies. He wants her to be a librarian, and Jasmine thinks it’s funny that he’s into nerds.
These two were pretty drama-free this week, but they still aren’t hot and heavy.
“Married at First Sight” Season 8 airs Tuesdays on Lifetime.
