The deep freeze in the Midwest has caused the U.S. Postal Service to shut down for another day in several states across the U.S. With the polar vortex bearing down, mail carriers are in danger from the cold as record-low temperatures have been recorded which have only been complicated by the windchill and winds.

“Some places could see wind chill readings as low as 60 below zero,” the postal service said as it announced its decision on Thursday.

“Due to the extreme weather conditions, the Postal Service has temporarily suspended delivery service in certain locations on Jan. 31 to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees.”
