?Dog the Bounty Hunter? Cancelled By A&E
A&E's reality series Dog the Bounty Hunter has been cancelled.
TMZ broke the news that the network has cancelled Dog the Bounty Hunter and stopped any move towards a Season 9 after contract negations betwween the bounty hunting family and A&E crumbled.
One source connected with Duane Dog Chapman told TMZ that the cancellation is based on creative differences, but here's the reality ... saying 'creative differences' is like breaking up with a girl and saying, 'It's not you, it's me,' quipped TMZ.
Despite having been cancelled, the show was nothing short of a roller coaster ride since the get-go.
Dog the Bounty Hunter, a reality series that followed the life of fugitive recovery agent Duane Dog Chapman and his team of bounty hunters, premiered on A&E in 2004. Chapman's business partner and wife, Beth Chapman, their sons and Duane Chapman's brother all starred in the show. The cast became famous for their brazen attitudes, their loud mouths and their outrageous appearances.
In 2007, Season 4 of the show was halted after an audio tape was released of Chapman using a racial slur repeatedly in a discussion with his son regarding his African American girlfriend. Chapman's son, Tucker, sold the tape to the National Enquirer and a public maelstrom ensued. Production of the show resumed in 2008.
In 2011, Dog's sons Duane Lee and Leland left the series and recent episodes of Dog the Bounty Hunter showed a potential family reconciliation, reported the Huffington Post. TMZ alleged that the two left the show after their father caught them attempting to start a side-business, an apparel company called CHAPBROS.
Most recently, Chapman and his family were working with the FBI after they received death threats via email over the course of four days. The graphic content of the messages initiated the federal investigation.
On April 30, a message to Chapman, obtained by RadarOnline, read, I'm going to murder you. I'm going to come to Hawaii and murder you and your family in cold blood. You are next on my list and are the bane of society. I will deliver you to God.
The family released a statement saying, The Chapmans are taking these threats seriously and are very concerned about the safety of their family. Duane Chapman said that when the person responsible is found, he will prosecute to the full extent of the law for the threats made against his family. A referral of the case has been made to the FBI in Honolulu.
Now that the show has been cancelled, fans will have to find another way to keep up with criminal-catching Duane Dog Chapman. Yes, he does have a Twitter.
