As the manhunt for Brian Laundrie enters the second week, Duane Lee Chapman, aka TV's Dog the Bounty Hunter, has joined the search for slain YouTuber Gabby Petito's boyfriend.
Chapman and his wife Francie were spotted knocking on the doors of Laundrie's home in North Port Saturday, reported Fox News. However, no one answered the door. Chapman was then called over to the neighbor, who spoke to him across the fence. Though he came back to the door again, nobody answered. By then, people had begun to gather, clicking pictures of the reality star. The duo left immediately. Police arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.
Chapman, a famous bounty hunter, tracks down fugitives, and his show "Dog the Bounty Hunter" is aired on A&E.
On why he went to the Laundries family home, Chapman told Fox News, "The reason I went to Mr. [Christopher] Laundrie is I carry a reputation with me. The reputation is, ‘He gives you a second chance. He’s gonna get you, but he gives you a second chance.’"
The TV star said he was in Florida when people began contacting him to look into Laundrie’s disappearance.
"We had a lot of requests that I get in on this," Chapman said. "This is what I do for a living, for 45 years."
"I know what the victims feel like," he said. "And the dad can still reach out to me, through social media," Chapman added. "Let’s get the kid captured alive. Alive."
Chapman's team also released a statement that read "Dog and Francie have experienced extreme loss themselves," referring to his daughter's death around the same age as Gabby Petito in a car accident in 2006.
"Their hearts go out to Gabby’s family for what they’re going through and want to help bring justice for her death."
The team has also asked anyone with information on Laundrie to contact 833-TELLDOG. All information will be kept confidential, the statement added.
Chapman added that much of the information he’s received about Laundrie's disappearance points toward the Appalachian Trail, where he camped previously.
If he is not in the Carlton Reserve, where a team is actively searching, Laundrie could be along the trail. "If there’s anywhere out there that looks the hottest, that could be the area," Chapman said.
"I think he’s young enough, not an experienced criminal, but what is his greatest experience? Outdoorsman -- that’s what he does the best," Chapman said.
"I don’t think he can shoplift, live on the run, live in cheap hotels. On a one-to-10, he’s probably a six, compared to the outdoorsmen and some of the guys I’ve captured," said Chapman.
He also ruled out that Laundrie may have gone to Mexico, saying "a White boy that doesn’t know Spanish, the cartel’s gonna grab him for the reward."
Laundrie was reported missing on Sept. 17, three days after his parents last saw him. He is said to be the person of interest in connection with the death of YouTuber Gabby Petito, whose remains were found at a campsite in Wyoming on Sept. 19.
