Dog Brutally Beaten By Guards For Seeking Shelter From Rain Inside Building

A stray dog was brutally thrashed in the western Indian city of Mumbai when it tried to take shelter inside a building complex during heavy rains. According to local media reports, surveillance footage shows two security guards mercilessly beating the animal.

The attack sent the dog into a coma and the canine was battling for life after receiving severe injuries on its head and abdomen. The video of the incident went viral on social media, forcing authorities to lodge a formal complaint against the two accused.

According to reports, the incident took place July 24 when a resident of the second floor of Turf View building instructed the watchman to beat up the dog. The watchmen hit the dog and left it to suffer in pain in the society's compound.

An animal rights group lodged a complaint with police following which the accused were taken into custody. However, they were released within minutes. Animal rights activists are now demanding better laws and punishment for the attackers.

The stray dog is currently undergoing treatment at a local veterinary clinic.

Several Bollywood celebrities condemned the "barbaric act," calling for punishment against animal cruelty.
