Dog With Duct-Tape Wound Around Mouth Rescued After Being In Pain For Two Weeks
A dog that carried searing wound from its mouth being duct-taped for over a week was rescued by animal rights activists Sunday (June 7) in the Indian state of Kerala.
The animal wandered around the Ollur locality in the city of Thrissur with a wound so deep that its nasal bones were almost visible. The case was brought to the notice of Thrissur unit of People for Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) by local residents, prompting them to search for the canine for days and rescue it, according to local media.
Ramachandran, secretary of PAWS, told local media that they initially thought the wound came from a single tape being tightly tied around its mouth, only to realize later that there were several layers of the tape.
“We thought that a single wrap of the tape was made around the dog’s mouth. But when we found the dog, there were several layers of tape, wound so tight that it had almost pierced deep into the skin and the bones around the nose had become visible. As soon as we removed the tape, the dog drank two liters of water," he told local publication The News Minute.
Ramachandran said they took the canine to a hospital soon after, where it was given antibiotics and was later declared stable. He also noted that dogs can survive without food for weeks.
The dog appeared to be someone’s pet considering the collar it still had on around its neck. Ramachandran alleged that its mouth must have been sealed with the tape to keep it from barking continuously.
In another incident of animal cruelty, Florida police arrested a man Monday (June 8) for shooting his neighbor’s dog to death. 53-year-old Daniel Robinson was upset over the canine entering his property on May 29, and yelled at his neighbor Teresa Culver, the dog’s owner, to pull it back. The dog, however, ran loose and again sneaked into Robinson’s yard, prompting him to draw a gun and fire shots. The animal died immediately in front of Culver and her 14-year-old. Robinson was charged with animal cruelty, infliction of physical or mental injury to a child, and discharging a firearm in public.
